1 2 3 Testing

Hi

Hopefully I will have my hackergotchi displayed next to this very message on Planet Gnome.

I had some problems with Linux kernel 2.6.21+ that I was able to workaround with the boot option idle=poll. My laptop won’t boot if there isn’t some kind of constant input (be it keyboard presses, touchpad movements or better still an optical mouse connected to an usb port).

Just now a friend with a similar laptop reported to me several random lockups while he was trying to boot Ubuntu gutsy tribe 1 livecd. I made him aware that those are only hiccups, he can get past any stop by pressing any key or whatever. He was amused.

So, is anyone aware of this or having the same thing happen? I can’t stop thinking it might have something to do with Dynamic Ticks.

First Post on Planet Gnome

Hello Planet Gnome!

My name is Flávio Martins and I am 21 years old. You can learn more about me here.
I’m one of the accepted students at Gnome for Google Summer of Code 2007.
My project is called GDM Composited Bling, and the purpose is to have a fancier display manager.
Yes! 3D effects and other screen transformations! I want!

I’m now only touching three projects within Gnome. They are, compiz, gnome-session and gdm2,
these will keep me entertained for some time. I’m thinking I should learn more about fusa
(fast user switching), because I know it looks cool the way Mac OS X does it.

Now, what does yesterdays announcement about EA games on the Mac mean for Linux?

Instant Messaging is Evil! What?

April 7, 2007

Not so long ago, I have decided to stop using MSN (Microsoft Messenger Network).

This resolution didn’t come as a surprise to some of you since I have expressed before my regret from ever using this Instant Messaging network.

Closed protocol, poor privacy features design and the awful bloat in the official client are some of the reasons that prompted me to support open protocol Instant Messaging networks.

If you are a user of a closed network like MSN or Yahoo, you’ll probably learn more than anybody else if you read further.

Extended version after the break …
